The Miner's Day Petition was successful!

House Concurrent Resolution No. 32, Designating December 6 annually as "Miner's Day", was adopted by both the House of Delegates and the Senate of the State of West Virginia during the 2nd Session of the 77th Legislature.

After the petition went online on January 16, 2006, the Resolution was introduced to the House on February 1, 2006 and adopted by the House on February 13, 2006. On February 14, it was introduced to the Senate and was adopted by the Senate on February 16, 2006.

Legislative action was declared complete on February 17, 2006.

Thanks to everyone who signed the petition, to the Legislators who supported and voted for it and especially to Delegate Longstreth, who championed this Resolution.

Congratulations to all for a job well done; accomplished in just one month and one day since the petition started!

The facts concerning the adoptions, dates and votes about House Concurrent Resolution No. 32 (Miner's Day) came from the West Virginia Legislature web site:

It is my understanding, based upon research, that the Governor is not required to sign Concurrent Resolutions. A Concurrent Resolution is a measure affecting actions, procedures or sentiments of both houses that must be adopted by both bodies. This information is from:

The Status of Miner's Day

The Status of Miner's Day: Appreciate, Honor and Remember . . . A petition to the Legislature of the State of West Virginia

On February 13, 2006, the Miner's Day resolution passed in the West Virginia House of Delegates. Then, on February 16, 2006, it was passed in West Virginia Senate. Legislative action accomplished one month to the day that the web site and petition appeared on the internet! We now await the signature of Governor Manchin to finalize the legislation.

The care and concern of over 10,000 people who signed the petition is close to being completely recognized. And the miners will know that they are appreciated, honored and remembered always by those whom they have and continue to provide so much for.

Miner's Day: Appreciate, Honor and Remember . . . A petition to the Legislature of the State of West Virginia

Dear Friends on deviantART,

I’m requesting you to take a moment to consider what all miners, everywhere in the world, do to help maintain the foundation of our civilization. And in particular, the work of the coal miner.

Here is a project I'm involved with and hope that all reading this will consider:

Miner's Day: Appreciate, Honor and Remember . . . A petition to the Legislature of the State of West Virginia

Would you be so kind as to take a few minutes to view our web site and consider signing the petition?

Hopefully this will also lead national and international days of appreciation for these individuals who risk their lives for us all.

If you agree that this is a worthy cause, please let others know about what we are trying to achieve.

Thanks,

Creed
